Nutrition Month Celebration

It is July again, and this month is the Nutrition Month Celebration that we students always wait for. We student’s celebrate it in ways like joining the school activities, in line with this month’s celebration. Student leaders of the STEP Club of Ilocos Sur National High School, who are in charge in all of the nutrition month activities, tried their best to perform their own duty. The theme for this month’s celebration is “Pagkain ng gulay ugaliin, araw-araw itong ihain”.

What is proper nutrition? Proper nutrition is the correct intake of nutrients that our body needs. We need to practice proper nutrition for us to be healthy and for us to live a long life. Proper nutrition will not be achieved if we avoid to eat vegetables. Vegetables are very important to all of us. It gives us the vital nutrients that we need for proper growth and maintenance.

The problem nowadays, some children and teenagers doesn’t like to eat vegetables. They prefer to eat meat always for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also much prefer to eat junk-foods. Unfortunate families that lives in squatter areas, like in some places in Manila, they don’t have proper nutrition. Why did I say this? I watched documentaries about them and I saw what they eat. They always eat noodles, and other families they eat leftovers. The main reason is they don’t have money for them to buy vegetables or meat or they don’t know how to produce. Having no money is not a hindrance for us to have a proper nutrition.

We need to celebrate Nutrition Month in our school to remind and show that we should observe proper nutrition. The activities for this month’s celebration are Mr. and Ms. Nutrition 2012, Nutri-Jingle Composition contest, cook fest, and many more. In these activities, it is were the students show off their own talents.
